Next summer is getting booked right now. Is it booking with you?
The boats are still on the water. Restaurants are still packed on the weekends, and the Lake still looks incredible at sunset. The season isn't over yet.
But fall is when the smart businesses at Lake of the Ozarks start planning. What you do over the next few months has a lot to do with how full your calendar looks next summer.

Your customers are already planning their next lake trip
"Some of our clients have been most of the way booked for summer before January even hits."
Think about where your customers will be in January. Cold, a little restless, and scrolling. They're daydreaming about warm weekends on the water, and they're booking.
We've seen it time and time again. Businesses that stay active through fall and winter build anticipation and give people something to look forward to. Some of our clients have been most of the way booked for summer before January even hits.
That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because their name was right there when the planning started.
Social media doesn't take a break. Why should you?
People don't stop scrolling when the crowds head home. Locals are still online. Past customers are still online. The family that stayed on your cove last July is still online.
If your page goes quiet in October, you disappear right when people start deciding where to go next year. Consistent posting keeps your name familiar, and familiar names get the call first. We've written more about staying active in the off-season if you want to dig into that side of it.
Look back at your season while it's still fresh
Before the calendar flips, take an honest look at this year. Which posts got people talking? Which promotions brought customers in, and which ones fell flat? What did people ask about most?
Write it down now, because by spring the details get fuzzy. Those answers are your game plan for next year. Do more of what worked, cut what didn't, and fix what almost worked.
Is your website ready for the planners?
When someone is planning a lake trip in January, your website is often the first place they land. Ask yourself:
Does it look current, or is it still showing last year's info?
Is it easy to use on a phone?
Can people book, call, or message you in a click or two?
Do the photos show what your business looks like today?
If any of those made you wince, fall is the time to fix it. You have the breathing room to do it right, and it will be ready before the planning rush. Your website says a lot about your business, so make sure it's saying the right thing.
Don't sleep on seasonal promotions
Gift cards are one of the easiest wins of the year. They bring in revenue during a slower stretch and bring customers back through your door later. Every card you sell is a future visit.
Black Friday and holiday offers work for almost any business, not just retail. A marina, a restaurant, a rental property, a salon. If people love what you do, you have something to promote. Plan it now so your graphics and posts are ready before November sneaks up on you.
Use the quiet months to tell your story
During the season, your best people are slammed. Nobody has time to sit down in front of a camera when the phones are ringing and the docks are full. Fall is when that changes.
That makes it the perfect time for staff interviews and behind-the-scenes content. Sit down with your team and dig into what sets you apart from the competition. Your people, your process, the little things your customers never get to see. That's the stuff nobody down the road can copy.
Then build some anticipation. Ask your team about their favorite memories from this season and what they're looking forward to next year. A new menu, a remodel, a new service, big plans for opening weekend. Share those stories through the winter and you give people a reason to keep watching and a reason to book.
Summer photos can wait for summer. Your stories are ready right now.
